<p>PURPOSE:To allow multicolor display which is distinctly identifiable to human eyes even with a binary driving system by forming respective picture elements for red, green and blue to an equal display areas and forming only the white picture elements to a different display area. CONSTITUTION:The three picture elements; R picture element 1, G picture element 2 and B picture element 3 of the four picture elements constituting, for example, one picture element of the color display having the picture elements constituted of the four picture elements; red R, green G, blue B, and white W, on a substrate are formed to 200mum square filter area and only the W picture element 4 is formed to 160mum square. Namely, the area ratio of the W picture element 4 and the other picture elements 1 to 3 is confined to <=2/3. The quantity of the white light is large and the color is so pale that brightness is lost if the picture element area is the same in the case of the display color added with the white; whereas, the light color display having the brightness is obtd. by decreasing the picture element area of the white.</p> |
