PURPOSE:To reduce the segment errors of a word unit or a clause unit so as to improve a KANA(Japanese syllabary)-KANJI(Chinese character) conversion rate by segmenting a character string by means of a blank in the word unit or the clause unit. CONSTITUTION:A blank check means 503 discriminates whether a handwriting character is inputted to a character input area having a position coordinate or it is the blank in a character input area unit based on the position coordinate data amount of the respective character input areas. When it is discriminated that the character is inputted, a character recognition means 300 recognizes the handwriting input character based on position coordinate data of the handwriting input character. When it is discriminated to be blank, the character string before the blank, which is recognized in the character recognition means 300, is treated as one word or one clause. The character string is KANA/ KANJI-converted by a KANA/KANJI conversion means 400. Thus, one word or one clause in the character string is segmented by the blank which a blank check means 503 discriminates, and the input of the blank into the character string is facilitated. |
