PURPOSE:To realize the projection type liquid crystal display device which can be improved in the brightness of a display screen and also improved in the display contrast. CONSTITUTION:A TFT-side substrate 36 and an opposite-side substrate 37 are stuck together and PDLC 26 is charged between both the substrates to manufacture a liquid crystal panel 11. Microlenses 33, 33... are arranged on the external surface of the TFT-side substrate 36. A slit plate 35 which has pinholes 45 is arranged on the external surface of the opposite-side substrate 37. The microlenses 33 and pinholes 45 are provided corresponding to picture elements. The hole diameter of the pinholes 45 is set much smaller than the diameter of a conventional general opening part and, preferably, 10-20mum. Consequently, the extent of afterward divergence of projection light passed through a liquid crystal phase is made smaller than before and the effective aperture of a projection lens is therefore never deviated from. |
