PURPOSE:To expand the changeable range of combustion rate of a catalytic combustion apparatus. CONSTITUTION:A catalytic combustion apparatus consists of a mixing chamber 12 for fuel and air, a catalytic layer 16 that is located downstream the mixing chamber 12 and has a number of communication holes, a heat ray permeation element 17 that is located opposite to the upstream side of the catalytic layer 16, and a heat ray reflection plate 18 that is located near the outer wall of the heat ray permeation element 17 and is capable of changing the area of reflection surface. The reflection amount of radiant heat from the catalytic layer 16 is controlled by changing the area of reflection surface according to the temperature of the catalytic layer 16 to regulate the temperature of the catalytic layer 16.
