PURPOSE:To obtain a metallic material capable of stably storing hydrogen at high density by using Zr and Mn as essential components and specifying the atomic percent. CONSTITUTION:This metallic material for storing hydrogen is an xZr-yMn alloy (where x=30-60atomic%, y=40-70atomic% and x+y=100atomic%.) By applying about 5-30kg/cm<2> hydrogen pressure to the material at room temp., metal hydride is formed to allow hydrogen to be stored in the form of metal hydride. When hydrogen is used, the pressure is reduced at room temp. to liberate and take out hydrogen from the metal hydride. By this metallic material operational conditions such as absorbing temp. and pressure of hydrogen and releasing temp. and pressure of hydrogen can be made gentle, and hydrogen is absorbed and released at a higher speed. Even if the purity of the alloy material or hydrogen gas is low, superior characteristics are shown as the material for storing hydrogen. In addition, this material is more inexpensive and practical than alloy of a rare earth element. |
