PURPOSE:To exclude trouble in mode switching by selecting the communication mode automatically in a telephone system having the cordless telephone mode and the portable telephone mode. CONSTITUTION:The telephone system is provided with an automatically communication mode switching section 9, a registration number and a call requesting signal for a portable telephone set are sent in the cordless telephone mode set automatically at the start of talking, and when the registration number as the portable telephone set and a call enable signal are received from an opposite party receiving them, the talking mode is unchanged and when no signal is received, the automatically communication mode switching section 9 selects the portable telephone mode.
