Mould closing unit with fixed and moving tool plates, end plate and guide rods, in which the guide rod surfaces are ceramic coated on a metallic adhesion layer. Light annular grooves formed in the rod surface below the electrically non-conductive coating provide gauge marks for positional control of the moving tool plate by inductive sensing. Both guide rods are equipped with inductive positional sensing and electronic control for the moving plate actuator is provided. USE/ADVANTAGE - Unit provides guide rods for a mould closing unit, having hard surfaces of superior wear and corrosion resistance and allowing the incorporation of gauge marks for inductive positional sensing.
