PURPOSE:To obtain the image fiber which is small in spacings between picture elements, is formed to a higher density and smaller diameter and is highly flexible. CONSTITUTION:A core 2 constituted by doping 1 to 2wt.% Cl and <=0.1wt.% F to quartz glass and a clad 3 formed using alkoxy silane as a glass raw material and doping B2O3 and/or F to the quartz glass are formed, by which an optical fiber 5 which is small in the difference in the viscosity of the core 3 and the clad 5 and does not require a jacket at the time of spinning is obtd. The image fiber 1 is formed by bundling many pieces of such optical fibers 5 and spinning the bundles. Then, the noise in the transmission of images is prevented and the use in UV ray environment is possible. The image fiber has excellent radiation resistance and the refractive index difference between the cores and clads can be increased. |
