PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL ISOLATOR AND OPTICAL FIBER FOR OPTICAL ISOLATOR

PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration in isolation by the excessively oblique disposition of respective elements by forming the optical isolator in such a manner that the specific refractive index difference between the core part and clad part at the end face parts of the optical fibers to be mounted to both sides of a body is lower than in the other parts. CONSTITUTION:The optical isolator is so formed that the specific refractive index difference n2 of the core part 10 and clad part 11 in the end face parts of the optical fibers to be mounted to both sides of an optical isolator function part (optical isolator body) is lower than the specific refractive index difference n1 in the core part 10 and clad part 11 in the other ordinary part ( n2< n1). The part of the relatively low specific refractive index difference n2 is sufficient with only the slight region at the end face parts of the fiber within the entire optical fiber. The reflection quantity of reflected return light is decreased by the slight inclination of the optical isolator function part 1 if such optical fibers are used.
