A parallel slide gate valve with spring-loaded (60) outwardly prestressed wedge-shaped sealing slides (30, 32) has on its adjusting spindle (42) a stop bush (88) which necessarily limits the closing path with a stop sleeve (86) fixed after adjustment and insertable axially in the spindle housing. The stop sleeve (86), which is secured in the housing, is adjusted with reference to the slide geometry and the characteristic of the spring arrangement (36) used to spread the sealing slides (30, 32) in such a way that a predetermined pressure of the sealing slides (30, 32) on the valve seats (22, 24) is obtained.
