The filter (12) is connected to the exhaust pipe and incorporates a regeneration burner (16) with a main spray nozzle (17) and combustion chamber. Compressed air is supplied in a constant substoichiometric quantity to the nozzle. The chamber is divided into a main section (15), connected to the nozzle, and an afterburner one (37) behind it, with the engine exhaust gases delivered into the latter for afterburning.
