Linear motor traction drive for wheeled vehicle - uses varying magnetic field between inner non-rotating part of vehicle wheel and tyre with attached core

A linear motor is housed within a drive wheel. The inner non-rotating part (1) of the wheel is secured to the vehicle, the electrical field windings (3) being around its edge. The outer rotatable tyre (4) has a magnetic core (5) around its inside, held at a spacing of several mm from the inner non-rotating part via spacing rollers (6). A varying magnetic field is obtained between the non-rotating part and the tyre for provoking the forward rotation of the latter. Pref., the winding voltage is calculated via an in-board computer for varying the velocity and drive torque. USE - Propulsion of road vehicle, bicycle or invalid carriage.
