PURPOSE:To enable the number of parts, a size, and a cost of a sensor to be reduced when detecting a torque and the number of revolutions from one rotary shaft. CONSTITUTION:A pair of magnetic recording portions 2 and 3 are provided at a rotary shaft 1 with a spacing in axial direction. A pair of magnetic heads 4 and 5 for performing recording/reproduction of the above position signal are provided at each of a pair of magnetic recording portions 2 and 3 opposingly. While a torque which is applied to the rotary shaft 1 is obtained based on an amount of deviation of a phase of a position signal which is reproduced from a pair of magnetic heads 4 and 5, the number of revolutions of the rotary shaft 1 is calculated based on a reproduction frequency of a position signal which is reproduced by one of a pair of magnetic heads 4 and 5, thus enabling the magnetic recording portions 2 and 3 and the magnetic heads 4 and 5 to be used for detecting the torque and the number of revolutions.
