Method of evaluating ceramics.

For evaluating mechanical properties of ceramics such as silicon nitride in a nondestructive state, a specific heat of ceramics being an object of evaluation is measured at a temperature not higher than room temperature. A comparison is made between a measured value of the specific heat and a known value of a specific heat of ceramics being a reference at the same temperature not higher than room temperature. By this comparison, mechanical properties of the evaluation object ceramics are presumed from known mechanical properties of the reference ceramics. A creep strength is given as one of the mechanical properties to be evaluated. It is possible to evaluate ceramics by a nondestructive inspection introduced into a production line or the like and guarantee mechanical properties with respect to individual ceramics to be supplied as products or the like in practice. <IMAGE>
