A spring (20) is arranged in the transmission between a temperature responsive actuator and a driven element to allow the actuator to continue to extend without damage when the element reaches a stop position. The actuator turns a lever (24) connected via spring (20) to a member (17) connected to the driven element e.g. a shutter. Also acting on lever (24) is a return spring (14). Spring (20) may be placed between the actuator housing and its support allowing the housing to move backwards when the stop position is reached.
