PURPOSE:To estimate the position of a vehicle by a navigation system which can estimates the position of the vehicle, to calculate travel information matching a road and guide the vehicle, and to calculate travel information matching outside environment and guides the vehicle. CONSTITUTION:The navigation device consists of a vehicle position estimating means 12 which detects the current position of the vehicle, a travel information arithmetic means 14 which reads road information out of a map data storage means 13 according to the information on the current position of the vehicle and calculates the travel information useful for the traveling of the vehicle at its current position, and a utilizing means 15 which utilizes the arithmetic result. Further, the device consists of the vehicle position estimating means 12 which detects the current position of the vehicle, the travel information arithmetic means 14 which takes the road information out of the map data storage means 13 according to the information on the current position of the vehicle and calculates the travel information useful for the traveling of the vehicle at its current position, a vehicle peripheral environment detecting means 16 which detects the environment of the periphery of the vehicle, an estimated travel information correcting means 17 which corrects the arithmetic result of the travel information arithmetic means 14 according to the information of the vehicle peripheral environment detecting means 16, and the utilizing means 15 which utilizes the arithmetic result. |
