Shielded electrode for cold welding of spheroidal cast iron, both inoculated and grey, with a core made from nickel-iron wire containing approximately 55 percent of nickel and approximately 45 percent of iron, and with a basic coating with added graphite containing 40 to 60 parts by weight of carbonates of calcium and magnesium, usually in the form of chalk, magnesite, dolomite, 10 to 22 parts by weight of calcium fluoride, usually in the form of fluorite, 7 to 15 parts by weight of oxides of iron, usually in the form of haematite, magnetite, scale, and up to 40 parts by weight of iron and nickel powder, characterized in that the coating contains 7 to 17 parts by weight of refined highly powdered carbon, preferably in the form of colloidal graphite, 2 to 10 parts by weight of magnesium or alloys of magnesium with aluminium, nickel, manganese, silicon, iron, 3 to 8 parts by weight of aluminosilicates, usually in the form of kaolin or talc, and up to 0.5 parts by weight of rare earth metals.
