Ammonium salts of N5-methyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrofolic acid, of a formula (I), as a diastereoisomeric mixt. or as (6R) or (6S) diastereomers are new. X = a nitrogen contg. base, esp. a prim., sec. or tertiary amine or basic aminoacid, most esp. cyclohexylamine, diisopropylamine, benzylamine, NH3, ethanolamine, triethanolamine, 2-dimethylamino-ethanol tert-butylamine, lysine (esp. L-lysine) or arginine (esp. L-arginine). Also new is the use of cpd. (II) in which the gps. HX are replaced by either 2 alkali metal cations or one alkaline cation. Pharmaceutical compsns. contg. (I) and/or (II) are also claimed.
