A method of filling a mining excavation, involving the introduction, into the space remaining following the extraction of minerals, of a filling in the form of sand, aggregate, ash or other materials, with the use of a filling barrier, characterized in that the filling barrier (T) is moved as a whole by a filling step value (s), along the entire length of the excavation, immediately before the filling operation, and after the making of a fresh excavation, immediately before the filling operation, and after the making of a fresh strip of filling, the roof above that strip continues to be supported with the use of props (6 and 7) and a roof-bar (4) with an extension arm (39) during the subsequent extraction cycle until the filling barrier (T) is further moved.<IMAGE>
