Corona shield construction for a high voltage insulator comprising at least one tubular protective ring 4 and support 5 for attaching the protective ring to an insulator 2. In order to simplify the manufacture and assembly of the shield construction, the protective ring is made of a curved profiled rod 6 where the inner circumference 6b of the protective ring has a continuous groove 7 running in the direction of the ring for attaching the support. The invention also concerns a profiled rod for the protective ring with a cross section in the form of a hollow segment of a circle larger than 180 degrees, with a flat surface 6b with a fixing groove 7 for the support. <IMAGE>
