STARTING UP METHOD OF WASTE TREATING ARC FURNACE

PURPOSE:To save conductive material while facilitating the starting up of operation by generating arc with the actuation of a conductive material feeder checking to see if there is no arc generated in a given time after arc charging is made ready. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 4 is lowered from the top of a slag 21 and made ready for arc charging connected to the power source. As no arc is produced when the slag 21 is not melted at a high temperature, a signal S from a furnace controller 19 activates a timer for a control panel 17. When the detection current of a current transformer 18 is below the specified level in a given time afterward, a motor 15 is rotated for a fixed time to feed a conductive material 11 in a hopper 13 onto the slag 21 whereby an arc is produced between the conductive material 11 and the electrode 4. This eliminates wasteful consumption of the conductive material 11 and facilitates the starting of operation of the furnace.
