A method of making an insecticidal pyrethrin by oxidation in aprotic organic solvent. The compounds are of the formula: wherein R11 is straight or branched chain lower alkyl or 1-alkenyl or hydrogen; R and R12 are the same or different and are hydrogen, halogen or lower alkyl or one of the moieties R and R12 is lower alkoxycarbonyl.
