CONTRAST MEDIUM AND ITS APPLICATION

A contrast medium of aq. carrier, dissolved contrast agent and dissolved sodium cpd. providing a sodium ion concn. of 15-75 mM Na/l is characterised in that it also contains a dissolved calcium salt and opt. potassium and magnesium salts in a total concn. of up to 0.8 mM Ca/l and up to 2 mM K/l, the ratio of sodium ions to calcium ions being greater than 55. Pref. the Ca concn. is 0.05-0.7 mM Ca(2+)/l (esp. 0.1-0.6 mM Ca(2+)/l), the K concn. is 0.2-1.5 mM K(+)/l (esp. 0.3-1.2 mM K(+)/l) and the Mg concn. is up to 0.8 mM Mg(2+)/l (esp. 0.05-0.4 mM Mg(2+)/l). Pref. the contrast agent is iodinated e.g. iohexol, ioversol, iopamidol, iotrolan, ioxaglate or iodix anol.
