<p>PURPOSE:To provide an image forming apparatus capable of automatically setting the number of staples and the position thereof optimum to sheets of various sizes and improved in user's convenience. CONSTITUTION:An electromotive stapler 70 is provided so as to be movable along the lower end of a staple tray 55 and sheets are received in the tray 55 along longitudinal and lateral matching reference lines A1, A2. The stapler 70 is reciprocally moved on the basis of the rotation of a motor M2 through a wire 77 and stopped at an arbitrary point to make it possible to bind the sheets at a plurality of places. The optimum number of staples and the optimum position thereof are stored in a control part corresponding to a sheet size and the stapler 70 is moved to the preset position of the staples in the direction shown by an arrow (i) corresponding to the sheet size selected by an operator or the sheet size automatically selected by APS control to bind the sheets.</p> |
