The invention relates to a covering element forming a windowsill which element is fixed onto a projecting edge, sill, entablature or doorstep, whether or not this already exists, of an opening such as a window, French window or door made in a wall, and is designed to shed the rainwater running down the wall. The element according to the invention includes a substantially flat part (1) with a decreasing cross-section thickness so as to have a top surface which slopes downwards and outwards and a part (2) which projects outwards from the external surface of the wall, the flat part (1) and the projecting part (2) of the section delimiting between them an angle which is approximately identical to the angle formed by the vertical external surface (3) and the top surface (4) of the projecting edge, sill, entablature or doorstep.
