The invention relates to a lock comprising an unlocking/locking mechanism 10 composed of elements 9 with pins 8 which, in the "locked" position automatically enter the cells 7 made in the thickness of the lock bolt 2. A flat key 16 with encoded wards 15, acting on the elements 9 of the mechanism 10, releases the lock bolt 2 which is returned, under the influence of a spring 4, to the "unlocked" position. Locking is brought about, from inside as from outside, by a manual push applied to the plate 28 or the knob 29. Locks of this type are all identical but each matched, at the end of assembly, to a flat key 16, the length of the wards 15 of which is adjusted at random during manufacture. <IMAGE>
