PURPOSE:To easily discriminate the photographing posture of the radiation image of the chest of a human body without being affected by photographing conditions and physical shapes. CONSTITUTION:A vertebral column position is detected in accordance with profile information in the direction crossing the vertebral column in a vertebral column position detecting section 21. At least one of the linearity of the vertebral column, the position of the vertebral column within the image, the positional relation between the vertebral column and a dropout part, and the symmetry of the right and left regions bisected by the vertebral column are analyzed in a characteristic analyzing section 22. Whether the photographing posture is a front face or side face is discriminated in a posture discriminating section 23 by utilizing the characteristic that the vertebral column in the front face image linearly exists approximately at the center of the image, the distance between the vertebral column and the drop-out part on the side of the chest is far and the image is approximately symmetrical to the center line with the vertebral column as an axis. Processing conditions are determined according to the posture in an image processing condition determining section 24. A image processing section 25 executes image processing upon receipt of this determination. |
