PRODUCTION OF CARBON CLUSTER

PURPOSE:To effectively form a large amount of C60, C70 carbon cluster and to control formation ratio of C60/C70. CONSTITUTION:A graphite crucible 12 is packed with a carbon binder (e.g. sponge titanium 40), pressed by an upper electrode 14 and a lower electrode 16 and heated in an inert atmosphere by an impulse resistance heating method to a temperature at which a metal carbide is formed to produce ultrafine particles containing carbon cluster. The ultrafine particles are delivered with a He carrier gas and collected by a dust filter 28. A formation ratio of C60/C70 is controlled by regulating the He gas pressure.
