PURPOSE:To produce a dense fiber-reinforced ceramic having a high strength by impregnating metal fibers, etc., with a mixture of specific polysilazanes, crosslinking and curing the impregnated polysilazanes and subsequently sintering the product. CONSTITUTION:(B) The preform of metal fibers or ceramic fibers is impregnated with one or more kinds of (A) polysilazanes having a number-average mol.wt. of 200-3000 and a viscosity of 100Pa.S at the impregnation temperature, crosslinked and cured, and subsequently sintered into the objective fiber- reinforced ceramic shown by the formula. The polysilazanes A are selected from a polysilazane having main repeating units of the formula ((n), (r) are 1, 2 or 3), a polysilazane having main repeating units of formulas: -[(SiH2)n(NH)r]- and -[(SiH2)mO]-((n), (m) and (r) are 1, 2 or 3), a polyorgano(hydro) silazane of a composition formula: (RSiHNH)x[(RSiH)1.5N]1-x (R is independently alkyl, alkenyl, etc.; 0.4<x<1), an improved polysilazane having desired repeating units and crosslinking bonds, and a polymetallosilazane. |
