IMPRGNATED CATHODE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME

The impregnated cathode is mfd. by heating a porous tungsten substrate under the oxidizing atmosphere to partially oxidize it, heating it inthe scandium nitrate [Sc(NO3)3 solution under the vacuum atmosphere to impregnate Sc(NO3)3 into the pores and on the surface of the porous tungsten substrate, drying the impregnted substrate, heat-treating it under the non-oxidizing atmosphere to form a tungsten-scandium cpd. in the pores of the tungsten substrate, and impregnating it into the barium nitrate. The cathode has a high current density and long life.
