PURPOSE:To provide a surface type light emitting element having a low threshold value and a low resistance by improving reflectivity of a mirror in the element, reducing a resistance of an element, and making injection of a current uniform. CONSTITUTION:One of mirrors for holding a light emitting element is formed of a metal film 5 and a dielectric multilayer film 6 or a semiconductor multilayer film 4, the metal film 5 and the dielectric multilayer 6 in such a manner that the film 5 is disposed nearer than the film 6 to a light emitting layer 2, and injection of a current is conducted through the film 5.
