The adhesive station (22) applies a double-side adhesive strip to the undivided material web (10). The longitudinal cutting device (12) when cutting the longitudinal strips (11) at the same time divides the adhesive strip running across the material web into sections whose length corrresponds exactly to the width of the longitudinal strips (11). The adhesive strip sections adhering to the longitudinal strip (11) can be cut through together with the strips (11) when cutting off the lengths with the transverse cutting devices (35). The adhesive station pref. has a contact pressure roller (23) with which the adhesive strips held readily detachable on a carrier web (24) can be transferred to the undivided material web (10). USE/ADVANTAGE - The adhesive strip to be applied can be used for all widths of strips without having to change the position of the adhesive labels.
