Hoist cages are used together with hoist arrangements as working platforms which enable a person, together with tools, to be lifted in a hoist cage with the aid of a hoist arrangement to a height appropriate for work to be performed. As the hoist arrangement is raised, the cage will rotate or swing in relation to the hoist arrangement due to the force of gravity acting on the pivotally mounted cage, and the cage may begin to oscillate. With the intention of enabling oscillatory motion of a lifting cage to be retarded from within the cage and to enable the cage to be brought to a halt at an appropriate working position in relation to the outermost arm of the lifting arrangement or the upper end of a ladder structure, a levelling device in the form of an adjustable disc brake has been mounted at at least one of the moveable connections of the cage with the lifting arrangement. Oscillatory motion of the cage (1) is transmitted in the levelling device to a worm screw (6) having a brakable output shaft, through the intermediary of a worm wheel (5). |
