The present invention relates to novel N-substituted azaheterocyclic carboxylic acids and esters thereof of formula (I), a method of preparing the same and to pharmaceutical compositions comprising the compounds. The novel compounds are useful in treating a central nervous system ailment related to the GABA uptake. Compounds of formula (I) may be used to treat for example, pain, anxiety, extrapyrimidinal dyskinesia, epilepsy and certain muscular and movement disorders. They are also useful as sedatives, hypnotics and antidepressants.
