The phase shifter comprises a hollow waveguide (2) with a number of ferromagnetic elements within the waveguide (2) lying in at least one plane parallel to the wave propagation direction. The ferromagnetic elements extend in the direction of an applied static magnetic field between two opposing walls of the hollow waveguide (2). Pref. the ferromagnetic elements (5) comprise ferromagnetic rods enclosed by a liquid or gaseous dielectric acting as a cooling medium. The latter may be enclosed by a dielectric hollow cylinder fitting around each dielectric rod or group of rods.
