The pancake motor has a rotor (25) and a stator (30). The rotor has a central fixing to the spindle (21) and the housing (22) supports a disc, which can be of the floppy magnetic disc type. Drive magnets (23) are set into recesses on the underside of the rotor housing element. The stator has a bearing (26), a coil (27) and a base plate (28). The bearing support consists of ball bearings (33) located between upper and lower discs (33a,33b). A centre section of the rotor plate is profiled (22a) to improve rigidity. ADVANTAGE - Profiled rotor plate improves vibration absorption.
