A yarn withdrawal device for the drawing off of a running yarn incorporates a suction pipe and a yarn delivery mechanism consisting of a roll to be surrounded by the yarn. The suction end of the suction pipe lies behind and in the immediate vicinity of the yarn delivery mechanism surface. The opening of a yarn inlet pipe is located directly before the yarn delivery mechanism. The suction pipe and the supply pipe can be swivelled in relation to each other round the roll axis between a catch position and an operating position.
