Gaseous N2 stored at high pressure in a cylinder (1) is released by a valve (2) into an extinguishing line (3). It passes through pressure redn. and control valves (4,5) to branch lines (6-8) which feed spray nozzles (9-11) within the housings (12,14,16) of the protected equipment (13,15,17). With very rapid redn. in concn. of 02 the fire is extinguished quickly. The N2 is only slightly supercooled by pressure redn. in comparison with strongly supercooled CO2 extinguishers. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. in large multicomputer installations, temp.-sensitive equipment is protected against damage from very low temp. as well as from burning.
