The machine vice has a base block (101) which accomodates the guide cheeks (102, 103) and the gear group of the mechanical or pneumatic system for the self-centring racks which run on the driving gear. The guide cheeds (102,103) via separate mechanical-pneumatic transmission actuates such as a cylinder-oston-slide assembly a compensater, move in the opposed longitudinal direction directly on one side and indirectly on the other side via a second slide. ADVANTAGE - The arrangement is more compact.
