The air cushion curtain (LKV) is for the protection of an occupant in a vehicle. When not in use it is stored in a hollow bow-shaped holder (1) fitted beneath the roof. In the event of an impact it is released andinflated in response to a signal from sensors in the front and rear bumpers. The inflated curtain drops in front of the occupant to form a main section (4) and a side section (5) with the contact area (6) at a maximum distance of 15 cm from the head and face.
