<p>A traffic counting cord (50) has a plurality of sections (19). Each section has a portion with conductive upper and lower members (20), and a portion with non-conductive upper and lower members (22). The upper and lower members are separated by resilient, non-conductive materials. Embedded within the members are a plurality of wires (24) insulated with nylon or other material and at least one non-insulated wire (26) which is in contact with the conductive member. An alternative embodiment replaces the wires with resilient conductive material (82) channeled through the cord to improve reliability. A method of splicing conductors by butt welding the conductors, covering the weld with an electrically conductive braided material, surrounding the splice with shrink tubing and orienting the conductors in a semi-perpendicular fashion to the axis of the conductors in the overall cord is also disclosed.</p> |
