The gearbox control bar consists of two parts (4,5) coupled to the gearbox and to the gear selection lever respectively, and joined together by a vibration damper (6) comprising a plate (7) of rubber with a vulcanised textile lining (9) and an encircling sheet metal wrapping (8). The damper is designed to be highly resistant to torsion so that a gear ratio can be selected positively by rotation of the control bar. Strong vibrations of the gearbox portion (4) are damped optimally when the damper is set at an angle of about 45 deg. to the longitudinal axis, so that the length (6') of the damper extends at right angles to the direction (20) of principal vibration of the power unit.
