PURPOSE:To extend the life by using a nickel hydroxide electrode containing cadmium hydroxide for a positive electrode plate. CONSTITUTION:A nickel hydroxide electrode containing cadmium hydroxide is used for the positive electrode plate of a nickel-zinc battery. The cadmium hydroxide in the positive electrode plate is eluted and diffused in an electrolyte and reaches a zinc negative electrode plate. The cadmium dissolved in the electrolyte is substituted with the metal zinc of the zinc negative electrode plate at this time and deposited as metal cadmium. The cadmium is gradually moved from the cadmium positive electrode plate to the negative electrode plate, and this reaction proceeds until no cadmium exists in the positive electrode plate. The metal cadmium deposited on the negative electrode plate is more uniform and finer than it is physically added directly to the negative electrode plate, the current collecting property of the zinc electrode is sharply improved with a small quantity of cadmium, the current distribution is unified, thus the life of a battery can be extended. |
