837,379. Sintering ores. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. Oct. 8, 1958 [Nov 5, 1957], No. 32162/58. Class 82(1) In a process for carrying out endothermic reactions on a sintering apparatus with simultaneous employment of solid fuel and hot gases, at least two different streams of hot gases are drawn through a bed of material to be reacted, a first stream being drawn from an ignition hood, and a second stream being drawn through the material, adjacent the first stream, the second stream having a temperature lower than that of the first stream, the temperatures of the streams being such that the molten zone within the bed is maintained as thin as possible. In an example a mixture of roasted pyrites, blast furnace dust, magnetite concentrates, pelletized mill dust, purple ferric oxide ore, recycled material and coke fines is sintered on a continuous machine as shown in Fig. 2, a first stream of gas at a temperature of about 1000‹C. being drawn through the bed from hood 4. A second stream of gas at about 800‹C. from hood 5 prevents the formation of a melting zone b (Fig. 2a), of undesirable thickness. One or more further streams of gas at a higher temperature, e.g. a stream of gas at 900‹C. from hood 6, may be drawn through the bed.
|
