The invention provides for a receiver stock (12) having a coating (14) which enhances the smoothness and absorbency thereof in order to provide improved smear resistance. In one embodiment, the hollow sphere pigment is a styrene acrylic emulsion and the binder is a latex binder. In another embodiment, the binder is a polyvinyl alcohol.
