<p>Gaseous oxygen is passed upwardly in the annular space between a central electrode (2) and a cylindrical electrode (3) to which a high voltage, high frequency signal is applied. Perfluorodecalin is continually passed down the inner surface of the cylindrical electrode (3) in the form of a film which serves both to cool the cylindrical electrode (3) and as a dielectric. The electrodes (2) and (3) may be in the form of a grid and may be coated with a metal oxide to inhibit decomposition of the ozone generated. Similarly, particles of metal oxide may be suspended in the liquid. A refrigeration unit (10) is provided to cool liquid en route to the electrodes (2, 3). <IMAGE></p> |
