PURPOSE:To obtain an electroviscous fluid, consisting essentially of a mesogen part and a flexible molecular chain except the mesogen part, having high-speed responsiveness and low-voltage controllability, etc., having a great change in viscosity and usable for absorbing vibration, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective electroviscous fluid consisting essentially of a liquid crystalline compound composed of a mesogen part and one or more flexible molecular chains expressed by the formula -CR<1>R<2> (R<1> and R<2> are H or 1-100C alkyl), -O(CR<1>R<2>)m- m is an integer of 1-5); -S)CR<1>R<2>)m-, -SiR<3>R<4>-O- (R<3> and R<4> are H, 1-10C alkyl, phenyl, etc.}, etc., except the mesogen part. The number of recurring units constituting the flexible molecular chains is >=11 (especially preferably 12-20). |
