A mooring chain steel, which has high shock resistance and high weldability, is composed of 0.2-0.35 wt.% carbon (C), 0.20- 0.35 wt.% silicon (Si), 1.50-1.90 wt.% manganese (Mn), less than 0.03 wt.% phosphorus (P), less than 0.03 wt.% sulphur (S), 0.02- 0.1 wt.% neodymium (Nb), 0.02-0.08 wt.% aluminum (Al) and the balance iron (Fe).
