This device serves to increase the mechanical-load possibility of a thin hollow cylinder made of glass ceramic and to enable additional components to be fixed to this cylinder. It comprises a stabilising ring (4a, 4b) at each end of the cylinder (1) made of glass ceramic. Each ring possesses a thin core, of circular shape, the upper edge and the lower edge of which carry a peripheral base. On the side opposite the core, one of the bases carries pairs of small strips (lamellae) which face each other and are also arranged in a circle. The cylinder (1) is fitted and adhesively bonded between the small strips. The peripheral bases of the rings (4a, 4b) serve for fixing the components. Applicable especially to the manufacture of a tube for a space communications telescope. <IMAGE>
