Fully mechanized safety device for a building site lift. The advantage of such a system lies in its sturdiness, in that it can be more easily repaired and consequently better serviced than an electromechanical device with which users may tend to tamper. The safety device includes a lever (13) integral with a circular plate (23) provided with a recess (24). The lever and the disk rotate about an axis (25). According to the position it adopts, the lever aligns the recess (24) with a slide (16), thereby enabling a landing door (22) to be slidingly opened. In this case, the lever (13) extends inside the lift cage opposite said opening. The lift continues to operate only once the door (22) has been closed and the lever (13) depressed.
